Oops...can't imagine what kinds of whacko interlopers those keywords will trigger! Maybe at least get more than a half dozen responses for a change...LOL
I hope that this isn't too small to make out -- but if it is too small, just double click on the photo and a larger version will open up for you. It is the sign in front of the ticket booth for the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, China.
I just love it for the wonderful turn of phrase (baleful biology...exquisite) and the total explicitness of intent.
And needless to say, I left my sword in the taxi.

well now I'm curious about the peculiar smell of effluvium. and i thought bangers were a type of english sausage. why is that a problem? lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat is effluvium? LOLOLOLOLOL.
ReplyDeleteoooh, i didn't even notice until i was getting ready to hit POST that eque is focused on that too!
LMAO!! I came to post the same question about that peculiar smell. I'll have to go google...
ReplyDeletemaybe its skunk since it mentioned not carrying animals in.
ohoh I see that Pearl has an edit feature in her comment posting. I'll have to look into putting that on mine. Thanks Pearl!
lol - I think it's gas, as in poots!!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the dictionary, grits has it. And it's a good thing we went up there before lunch.
ReplyDeleteBangers may be fireworks...
No pooting in the tower, dammit!
ReplyDeleteI love how the ya-ya lexicon has endured!
LOL.....it's always pearl that introduces me to an even cooler word than the cool word that already exists!
ReplyDeleteThat's me! Your scatological lexicographer - at your service!
ReplyDeletepearl girl, it is vacation time and i am not even going to look up 'scatological' ......until autumn ! LOL....And once again, i am NEVER EVER going to play you in Scrabble. I like thinking that i am smarter than i really am.... ;)
ReplyDeleteJust finished a Harlan Coben book today. I think it was his very first one: Fade Away. Written in 1996.
I wish Win was my brother. And i would definitely date Myron Bolitare in a heartbeat, but he would have to stop with the quips after awhile. good summer reading!
I too am a big fan of C's pearls of wisdom. I am going to look up scatological, but I wont tell lol.
ReplyDeleteIf they ever make movies of the Myron Bolitar series, they had better not botch up who plays them.
Who do yall think should play them?
I say Owen Wilson for Wyn and Matthew Mccon. for Myron.
nah... I think Tom Welling would be a better Myron than Matthew now that I think about it.:)
ReplyDeleteGrits, you know who i keep thinking of when i read about Win? I think of Niles Crane from Frasier. I can't help it.
ReplyDeleteMyron has to be a very tall guy and handsome, but not too pretty. I'm not a fan of Matthew McConaughy so i can't picture him. I'll think about that one. And you're right. he better be perfectly cast.
Who is Tom Welling?
ReplyDeleteooh Tom's dreamy - go google him lol.
ReplyDeleteActually, I keep thinking of Tom Selleck for Myron, but I think he's a bit too old for the part.
Selleck is DEFINITELY too old. And i googled Welling, but i think he looks too young and too pretty to play Myron.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Matt Damon isn't taller, he would likely make a good Myron. He's got that sensitive toughness thing going for him. What do y'all think of Niles Crane for Win? Wouldn't it be a hoot? Actually i realize Win needs to be the pretty boy handsome type. I am not a fan of blondes (except for Sawyer) so i can't think of anyone right now and Josh Holloway looks to male for the part. all i know when i read Win's character is Niles comes to mind. LOL
They would really have to find a way to toughen Niles up. Wyn is top-notch in martial arts and not afraid of anything. Yeah, I think Wyn is a very pretty blonde man and all that comes to mind is Owen Wilson. Maybe Brad Pitt. It would be nice to see those parts go to relatively unknowns though for a change.
ReplyDeleteI had to LOL at how this post turned but then again the title of it goes hand in hand with characters in Coben's books.
I could see McConaghey (sp?) as Myron. I think mainly because of his role in that Grisham movie.
ReplyDeleteNot remembering the Win character...
ooh Eque -'A Time to Kill' - excellent movie!!
ReplyDeleteI think Win is only in the Myron Bolitar series.
Win is like a super hero! I love Win's character. I love Myron's mom. I love Esperenza. Myron's mom could be Doris from Everybody Loves Raymond. A young Robert Redford (thing Great Gatsby movie) could play Win. The reason i think of Niles Crane is because you are surprised to know that Win is a lethal weapon because he looks like a country club boy.
ReplyDeletePearl, you must be proud - this is 19 Comments!!!! I wish you could weigh in on the Harlan Coben casting. I know it's hard to post from a phone. Well, actually i don't know how hard since i don't even have a cell phone, but i hear y'all talking about it. Hope you're having fun!
Yah! - Win can blow a bad guy's head off, never break a sweat, go to dinner after and totally enjoy it all - then go to bed and sleep like a rock.
ReplyDeleteWhere did Pearl go this time?
oh ok - I read on Eque's blog that Pearl is in SoCali - how fun!!!!!
ReplyDeletei can't wait for her to weigh in on who SHE thinks should play Win and Myron. She's a huge Harlan Coben fan.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, i saw in an email from Borders that Carl Hiasson has a new book coming out soon too. I hope it's a good one. I haven't been crazy about the newer Harlan Coben books and i don't want Hiasson to go the same way.
i just blogged about something similar. Someone recommended David Rosenfelt since I like Coben.
ReplyDeleteI have to go google Carl Hiasson.
won't you come home, pearl bailey???
ReplyDeletewhere is she? i just saw her leave a long ass post on eque's blog so you know she's not doing it from her phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm back and neglecting this blog for facebook.
ReplyDeletei LOVE your new blog photo!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteooh I love your the new pic too! You have your books, camera and look so radiant & happy!! Are your braces the invisible kind?
ReplyDeleteNope -- invisalign wasn't an option for my overbite, so I have ceramic brackets on my "social 6" (the teeth most prominent when I smile) and metal everywhere else.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the new avatar -- it was taken at the top of the appropriately named Pearl Tower in Shanghai.
